XSpouse (Software)

XSpouse is software for calculating child support and spousal support under California law.

XSpouse is a software application designed for family law professionals to calculate child support and spousal support in California. XSpouse implements the California statewide uniform guideline for child support under Family Code Section 4055 and provides tools for calculating temporary and permanent spousal support.

In California Family Law

XSpouse is one of several software programs approved for use in California family law to calculate guideline child support. Under Family Code Section 4055, child support is calculated using a formula that considers both parents’ net disposable income, the percentage of time each parent has physical custody of the children, and the number of children. XSpouse performs these calculations and generates reports that can be filed with the court. The software also calculates temporary spousal support using the county-specific formulas (such as the Santa Clara formula or the Alameda formula) that are commonly used by family courts as a starting point for temporary support orders. XSpouse allows the user to input detailed income information, deductions, and adjustments, and produces a support calculation that complies with the statutory requirements. Other approved software programs include DissoMaster and SupporTax. The court may rely on the output of these programs, but the parties have the right to challenge the inputs and assumptions used in the calculation. Family law attorneys routinely use XSpouse or similar software to prepare support calculations for court filings and settlement negotiations.
