How to Request a Birth Certificate in Orange County

Requesting an Orange County birth certificate: choosing the correct copy, applying in person or by mail, and checking current fees.

For a birth recorded in Orange County, begin with the Orange County Clerk-Recorder’s vital-records instructions. Choose the type of copy and request method before submitting personal information.

Choose the correct copy

An authorized certified copy requires eligibility. People who do not qualify may request an informational certified copy, which cannot establish identity. Read the current application’s eligibility and sworn-statement instructions.

Request in person

Complete the county’s online application before visiting and bring the required identification. Check the official page for current office locations, hours, and payment methods.

Request by mail

Use the current mail-in application. Follow its signature and notarization instructions for the copy requested. The county directs mail-in payment by check or money order payable to County of Orange; do not mail cash. Use the mailing address on the current form.

Fee and timing

The birth-certificate fee is $34 per copy under the county’s 2026 fee notice. Confirm the current charge before ordering. Processing time does not include postal delivery; allow extra time before a filing or appointment.

For a birth elsewhere, contact the appropriate county or state records office.
